2003 Seminar: The Dances and Folklore of The Black Forest
Klaus Fink
Baden-Württemburg, Germany
18-20 July 2003
The 10th Annual Folkdance weekend of the North American Federation of German
Folkdance Groups focused on the 'Black Forest' with Klaus Fink as instructor. Klaus is the son of Reinhold Fink, a well known instructor in Germany. The event was hosted by the 'Blue Mountain German Dancers' of Walla Walla, WA who did a wonderful job making everyone comfortable and happy. The group organized the weekend with great efficiency and personal committment in light and pleasant surroundings which left every one happy and contented.
The weekend began with registrations and crafts - wheat weaving, drop-spindle spinning and making 'first day of school cones' under the leadership of Hedy Harrick. There was also an exhibit of artifacts and costumes from the Black Forest and a table of 'tag sale' items to benefit the musician fund arranged by Roseanne Gehauf. Ron Tomocik was our accordionist, Nelson Gottier our videographer and Pete Bullard editor of the video. All together 87 people attended, many for teh first time. Many thanks to Nancy Berlier, Hedy Herrick and Lucille Nelson for their many hours of planning and working to make this project sauch a great success; as well as all the 'Blue Mountain Deutsche Tänzer' who made this event happen.
